BAJI Action at PAFF in Austin – Connecting with Voters and Building Power

BAJI Action Connect with Voters at 2024 Pan African Film Festival in Austin

In August, BAJI Action joined BAJI and BLD PWR to proudly participated in the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) at the Austin Film Society (AFS), and we couldn’t be more energized by the experience.

What began as a celebration of Black art and culture quickly became a vital platform for connecting with voters, mobilizing our communities, and pushing forward our commitment to justice, equity, and representation.

A Platform for Community Engagement

At BAJI, we believe that cultural spaces like PAFF are critical not only for showcasing the richness of Black and African diaspora stories, but also for strengthening our movement for justice. We had the opportunity to connect directly with voters, share the work of the BAJI Action Fund, and inspire community members to take action on the issues that matter most to them.

By engaging with festival-goers in a space that reflects their experiences and heritage, we were able to have honest conversations about the power of their vote and the importance of advocating for policies that uplift Black communities. These exchanges are what fuel our movement and remind us of the strength we hold when we come together for change.

Voter Education and Mobilization

Our presence at PAFF wasn’t just about being there—it was about meaningful voter engagement. We provided resources on voter registration, explained the critical issues at stake, and encouraged individuals to get involved at every level of the political process. Our conversations with voters showed that there is a hunger for change, and we’re committed to ensuring that our communities have the tools and information they need to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Looking Ahead

BAJI Action Fund was able to take full advantage of this cultural event to engage with voters and build momentum for the work ahead. We’re seeing firsthand the power of connecting with our communities in spaces that resonate with them—spaces where art, culture, and advocacy intersect to create lasting impact.

We left Austin more committed than ever to continue this work, and we’re excited for what’s next. Together, with the continued support of our partners, funders, and community, we’ll keep pushing forward—because our voices matter, our votes matter, and our future depends on it.
